Our natural oils are our best conditioners. They’ll smooth, relax and polish you up. To freshin up simply rinse and condition, just skip the shampoo. Dry shampoos like Kevin Murphy’s  ”Fresh hair” are also a great way to freshin, add volume and texture.

For smoother, shinnier, frizz and breakage free hair comb out your hair from root to end with a regular barber comb.  The tighter teeth smooth out the cuticle and push shorter, broken, and frizzy hairs back into place.

Every new year we hear that we must replace our smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries. Every 5000 km we honour our cars with an oil change.  Hopefully replace our toothbrushes every season or sooner.  And we also know to change the filter in the water pitcher every 2 months or 151 litres.  But when do we upgrade our styling tools.   When the brush gets so full of hair that it can no longer grip our cherished new cut?  When the blow dryer starts to smoke or has put you 1.5 lbs or $75 over your allowed luggage weight?  There are lots of us out there struggling with styling our own hair.  I’m always hearing, “it’ll never look like this again”.  Besides the lack of, “try-try-again”, which is how must stylists got their skills, many are trying to shape their lovely locks with hotel bathroom blow dryers and brushes we bought at the same place as our windshield washer and the latest season of Desperate Housewives.

Although having our hair shaped, polished and colour enhanced is the least expensive cosmetic procedure, it is also the most effective.  So we should really be taking full advantage of these savings.  We can best do this by protecting and maintaining our investment.   For example, a great blow dryer will not only speed up your styling time, it will give you the result you want with little effort.   Allowing you to enjoy the styling process and not make it feel like a chore.   At the same time your right brush will polish your colour and give you the dexterity to place and lock in your style.  Good products will also make the “job” easier, but with a little question and answer session with a great experienced stylist will get you superior products that will turn your morning routine into an experience. 

Hallmark™ shows no signs of adding “Blow Dryer Appreciation Day” to the calendar anytime soon, so it’s up to us to begin the “Upgrade” revolution.  Look your best everyday! And enjoy the process getting there.

Our products are like our wardrodes.  We’ll have pieces that come and go but we will always have our perfect skirt and pumps. Same is true for our hair.  Exploring and playing with new products is always fun, but in a jam or packing for a holiday we always grab our favourite hairspray and mousse.  Just make sure its good mousse.  Good mousse is creamy and runs smoothly through the hair, not foamy and crunchy.  A can of mousse should have weight.  This tells us that there is more product then areosol.  So as the product disapates there should still be a liquid product on your hands not a dry sticky film.  And the same is true for your hairspray.  Great hairspray  never makes hair look unaproachable.  For a hairspray or finishing spray to perform well it should always enhance your style, allow hair to move and leave you with an elastic hold and brushable finish.

Work with what ya got!   

Most of us were born with almost the right colour.   By simply enhancing your hairs natural colour and texture we can enjoy low maintanace and longevity, key factors in loving your hair.  Colouring and managing grey should always better the hair, never damage the hairs structure.  Great colour is customized to the individual.  Always taking into account your hairs’ past colour services, daily care, and desired maintenance routine.  Goin’ light or goin’ dark is a matter of taste.  Solid dark or solid light is a great way to enhance texture, but has a tendency to be high maintanace and become boring. 

I’ll always believe colouring our hair is the most effective cosmetic enhancement available.  Like other enhancements your initial visit is just the beginning.  To care for your service use gentle washes and custom rinses such as moisturizers, volumizers, protein care and leave-ins.  Be gentle when styling, especially when your hair is wet.  This is when our hair is most susceptible to breakage.  Hair colour is fun and should never feel like a chore.  If it does you may not have the right colour.
